3/100 Al's Bar

On the corner of Third and Traction
a bouncer checks your ID
sends you through an unmarked door
into a room
filled with spray painted missives,
and gothic tattoos.
The bartenders pace, their dodging heads
and tired wrists in continuous
choreography, set to the sound
of ice and loose change.

On the corner of Third and Traction
there's a bar called Al's,
and at midnight on a Saturday,
the women wear red lipstick,
play pool with cocky college boys,
their tight black dresses
stretched across the ash-stained felt
high voices giggling,
as the white ball hits the rails,
missing every pocket.
